Spurs Secure Andy…

Tottenham has officially announced the signing of Andy Robertson on a free transfer, following his exit from Liverpool.

The Scotland captain joins Spurs as manager Roberto De Zerbi aims to rejuvenate a squad that only secured its Premier League status on the final day of the season.

Robertson was on the verge of transferring to Spurs in January; however, Liverpool could not recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma, leading to the deal being called off.

“I’m currently in America preparing for the World Cup, but I just wanted to send a quick message to express my excitement about playing for you all,” said Robertson in a short video message from Scotland’s World Cup camp.

“I can’t wait to meet everyone and experience playing at the stadium for the first time in front of you. I’m already looking forward to next season!”

There was also late but unsuccessful interest from Serie A side Juventus, according to sources at ESPN.

De Zerbi expressed his enthusiasm for Robertson’s signing: “I’ve admired Andy for many years, and he brings exceptional technical abilities, experience, leadership, and a winning mindset to our team.”

“I’m particularly excited to have a Scottish player on our team, as I appreciate their mentality and passion for the game, especially after working with Billy Gilmour at Brighton.”

“He is a proven winner who can make a significant impact, both on and off the field, and I can’t wait to see the positive influence he’ll have on everyone around him.”

During his nine years with Liverpool, Robertson made 378 appearances, contributed 69 assists, and won two Premier League titles, one Champions League, one FA Cup, two League Cups, and one Club World Cup.

Additionally, Robertson is set to captain his national team in its first World Cup appearance since 1998 this summer.

Sources indicate that Spurs view the 32-year-old as a vital addition to their leadership group, aiming to incorporate strong personalities into the squad.

“First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back—one of the best in Premier League history—and someone who will enhance our squad,” said Spurs’ sporting director Johan Lange.

“His quality, character, and leadership have been evident throughout his career, where he has consistently competed for and won major honors.”

“We are thrilled about Andy’s new chapter with us and anticipate his arrival after the World Cup.”

Spurs required a win on the last day of the 2025-26 season against Everton to avoid relegation, leading to back-to-back finishes in 17th place. This prompted action from the club and its majority owners, ENIC, led by the Lewis family.

The dynamic full-back will compete with Destiny Udogie, who has been the undisputed first choice on the left side but has faced numerous fitness challenges over the past three seasons.

Robertson, 32, began his career with Queen’s Park in Scotland before moving to Hull, where his impressive performance led to a transfer to Liverpool.
