Serie A Sporting Director…

  • AC Monza’s sporting director has expressed a strong interest in securing Argentinian forward Claudio Echeverri for the upcoming summer season.

  • During his brief time at Manchester City, Echeverri made only three appearances before being loaned to Germany.

Nicolas Burdisso, the sporting director of AC Monza, indicated that he is keen on bringing Manchester City loanee Claudio Echeverri to their Serie A side next season, as reported by Italian media.

Echeverri joined Manchester City from Argentinian club River Plate in 2025, stepping into a high-pressure situation with a team that was struggling for consistent performance.

River Plate plans to reach out to Manchester City regarding a potential loan transfer for the midfielder.

The young attacking midfielder, now 20, faced significant challenges during his time at the Etihad Stadium, including a disappointing FA Cup Final loss to Crystal Palace before turning things around during a more successful FIFA Club World Cup run held in the United States.

During that tournament, he notably scored a spectacular free-kick against Al Ain, curling the ball in from 20 yards to impact his first and only goal for Manchester City.

Due to an influx of international talent, Manchester City deemed it best to loan Echeverri out. Although there was an interest for him to join Girona, his representatives chose to take him to Bayer Leverkusen.

Claudio Echeverri’s Challenging 2025/26 Season

While with Bayer Leverkusen, Echeverri managed to play only 270 minutes across 11 matches, finding himself frequently sidelined. In the first half of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, he was an unused substitute in seven out of the 13 games he was available for.

Subsequently, Kasper Hjulmand, the manager at Bayer Leverkusen, collaborated with Manchester City to terminate the loan deal ahead of schedule, allowing Echeverri to transition to Spain in January and rejoin the City Football Group (CFG), where he enjoyed more regular playing time.

Since then, Claudio has made 17 appearances in La Liga for Girona, contributing a goal and an assist in one match against Athletic Club in March.

Echeverri’s Return to European Football This Summer?

Following an increase in his playtime and confidence, Echeverri has garnered attention from various European clubs. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Monza is keeping a close eye on his development.

A subsequent loan move could prove advantageous for Claudio Echeverri, especially given his improved performances and the notable increase in his playing time across Europe.

These elements contribute to a complicated situation regarding his future at Manchester City, but if he continues to gain elite-level experience, he could evolve into the player the club envisioned when they signed him in 2025.
