Éderson Receives Brazil…

The Atalanta midfielder and transfer target for Manchester United, Éderson, has been selected for Brazil’s World Cup squad after an injury to Wesley.

Wesley, who was anticipated to start as the right back under Carlo Ancelotti, sustained an injury during Saturday’s 2-1 friendly victory over Egypt.

Following his injury, Brazil announced on Sunday that Wesley will not participate in the World Cup due to a left thigh injury, and Éderson is set to join the squad on Monday.

The 26-year-old is expected to be United’s first signing of the summer, with sources reporting that a deal has been reached with Atalanta for his transfer on Wednesday.

The Italian club has accepted an initial offer of £35 million ($47 million), with an additional £4 million available through performance-related bonuses. Éderson is set to sign a contract until 2030, with an option for a further year.

With three international caps, Éderson becomes the first Brazilian player in 20 years to be called into the squad as a replacement due to injury.

The last instance of such a switch was when Mineiro replaced Barcelona’s Edmilson in 2006.

Wesley’s absence adds him to the list of players missing the tournament, including Éder Militão, Rodrygo, and Estêvão.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s all-time leading scorer Neymar is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan on Monday to assess a grade 2 muscle strain in his right calf.
