Ruben Amorim has reportedly become the frontrunner to succeed Massimiliano Allegri as the head coach of AC Milan, according to a source close to ESPN.
Following Allegri’s recent dismissal after a disappointing fifth-place finish in Serie A that left the team out of the Champions League for next season, Milan is actively searching for a new coach.
Amorim, 41, parted ways with Manchester United in January after a challenging 14-month tenure, which followed a successful stint at Sporting CP.
The change comes after a disappointing end to the 2025-26 Serie A season, during which the club’s owners, RedBird Capital, decided to release Allegri—who was in his second tenure—as well as Milan’s CEO and sporting director.
Sources indicate that Amorim is well-positioned to take over as the new coach of the storied Italian club.
Since winning the Serie A title in 2022, Milan’s performance has declined, finishing 4th, 2nd, 8th, and then 5th in subsequent seasons.
Amorim joined Manchester United in November 2024 but concluded his time there with a 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a loss in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
