Liverpool is poised to undergo a complete transformation of its squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The team faced challenges during the 2025-26 season, and without bolstering their roster, it’s improbable that Andoni Iraola can turn things around.

With the World Cup currently underway, the Spanish manager has extra time to evaluate his existing players.
Iraola previously stated that he would treat every player as if they were a new signing, a refreshing change for Liverpool supporters following a season characterized by Arne Slot‘s favoritism.
Given the number of players already leaving the club, it’s not surprising that they are exploring various options, including the possibility of a former player returning.

Mohamed Salah‘s departure from Liverpool has certainly disappointed fans.
The Egyptian star actually had another year remaining on his contract but chose to leave early due to conflicts with Slot and diminished playing time this season.
While his exit means Liverpool saves about £20 million in wages, it pales in comparison to the transfer fees discussed for the 33-year-old in previous seasons.
Now available on a free transfer, Salah can take his time weighing his options for the next stage of his career.

Recent reports from La Gazzetta Dello Sport suggest that he may consider a return to one of his former clubs.
“In Europe, there isn’t a clear opportunity for Mo to secure the same leading role or the €12 million salary he desires,” the report stated.
“The idea of a nostalgic return to Rome is appealing, as is the prospect of a final season in MLS, where San Diego has shown interest. If Fenerbahce is really prepared to make a significant offer, that could become a viable option for him.”
“Salah remains eager to play at a high level, so for now, his focus is on the World Cup with Egypt.

Liverpool should have parted ways with Arne Slot before Mohamed Salah made his decision
Slot’s tenure at Liverpool had clearly reached its conclusion long before he was dismissed.
The Dutch coach’s tactical acumen proved inadequate, often opting for strategies that contradicted what was necessary.
One key factor in Liverpool winning the Premier League was Salah‘s outstanding performances in the 2024-25 season, a time when Slot utilized his strengths effectively.
This year, however, Slot shifted away from making Salah the primary scorer to trying to convert him into a creator.

Of course, Liverpool’s acquisition of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike justified some of his decisions, but sidelining a prolific goal scorer like Salah is not a wise move.
Many fans would have preferred to retain the Egyptian star rather than Slot, but thanks to Fenway Sports Group’s delayed actions, they ended up losing both.
Regardless of where he lands this summer, Salah will undoubtedly be one of the finest players to have ever worn Liverpool’s colors.
