This is the news that Sky Blues supporters have eagerly anticipated all summer. The excitement kicked off during the We Are Back celebration at the city’s War Memorial Park, where thousands rallied, chanting “sign the contract” for Frank Lampard.

When he was hired in November 2024 on a two-and-a-half-year contract, owner and chairman Doug King joked that “that’s as long as most of them last, isn’t it?”

Little did they know it would turn out this positively.

From finishing 17th to reaching the Championship play-offs, suffering a heartbreaking semi-final loss, and then experiencing a remarkable turnaround: Coventry City clinched the EFL title with 95 points, 11 ahead of their closest competitors, scoring 97 goals and winning 28 games. Lampard has significantly impacted Coventry City, just as Coventry City has revitalized his career. After his time at Everton, and particularly during his second tenure at Chelsea, he sought a place to rebuild his reputation, and he has done so remarkably well.

Both Crystal Palace and Fulham, both established Premier League clubs, showed interest in bringing him back to London earlier this summer. However, his new three-year contract effectively quashes those plans, at least in the near future. His deep connection with the players and, most importantly, the City fans was evident as last season’s remarkable run reached its thrilling conclusion.
