London City Lionesses have signed Denmark international Janni Thomsen from Utah Royals FC.
The 26-year-old defender has agreed a two-year contract and becomes the latest addition to Eder Maestre’s squad, joining recent arrivals Germany striker Nicole Anyomi and goalkeeper Mary Earps.
Thomsen has made 11 NWSL appearances for Utah this season, helping the club sit second at the halfway point. She has also represented Denmark at the last two European Championships and the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
“I’m proud to join London City,” Thomsen said, adding that the club’s project is serious and highly ambitious.
After finishing sixth in their first Women’s Super League season, London City have been among the most active clubs in the summer window. With two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and Spain defender Mapi León expected to arrive in the coming weeks, the Lionesses are pressing to challenge the WSL’s established powers.
