For several weeks, it has been anticipated that Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries would be joining Florentino Perez during his re-election campaign. The deal for the 30-year-old has now been confirmed by the club.
On Sunday, Real Madrid made an official announcement confirming that Dumfries has become the club’s fourth signing of the summer, following Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, and Ibrahima Konate. He has agreed to a four-year deal, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2029-30 season.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of Denzel Dumfries, who is now contracted to our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030.”
Real Madrid activated Dumfries’ release clause
Following the departure of captain Dani Carvajal at the end of last season, Real Madrid swiftly sought a replacement. Although they had multiple targets, they acted quickly to trigger Dumfries’ €20 million release clause at the request of new head coach Jose Mourinho.
Despite the agreement being in place for weeks, Real Madrid opted to wait until Dumfries’s participation in the 2026 World Cup with the Netherlands came to an end—eliminated by Morocco earlier this week—before making the move official. This decision was made in respect of Dumfries, allowing him to concentrate fully on the tournament without unnecessary distractions.

Dumfries is set to be introduced as a new Real Madrid player in the following weeks, once he arrives in the Spanish capital after a well-deserved break from football. He will then join Mourinho and his new teammates later this summer, preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
