Dumfries officially joins Real Madrid from Inter

Inter Milan, the reigning Serie A champions, bade farewell to their defender with an extensive statement on their official website.

“FC Internazionale Milano announces the transfer of Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid,” the club stated.

“The Dutch international joins the Spanish side on a permanent basis after his release clause was activated. We all remember falling in love with Dumfries that day at the Olimpico when he made a critical goal-saving block and then surged forward to score with a diving header for his first goal in our colors.”

“Or consider that remarkable moment against Lecce, scoring deep into stoppage time—his joy evident as he celebrated. He played with a fierce intensity in the derbies, showcasing his grit and determination on the field.”

“On magical evenings, Denzel seemed to elevate his game to an otherworldly level. Just ask those who witnessed him in Montjuïc during the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona. His remarkable bicycle-kick, followed by a header, and the stunning assist to Thuram showcased his immense contribution, totaling two goals and three assists across both legs of that iconic San Siro clash.”

Real Madrid confirmed the transfer with a concise announcement, stating that Dumfries has signed a contract extending until June 2030: “Real Madrid C.F. and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of Denzel Dumfries, who will be with our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030.”

This transfer was anticipated, given previous reports indicating that Real Madrid agreed to pay the €20m release clause to secure Dumfries from Inter.

Having joined Inter in the summer of 2021 for €14.2m from PSV, Dumfries made 207 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 28 assists. During his tenure at Stadio Meazza, he won two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia titles, and three Italian Super Cups.

Although Inter aimed to sign Marco Palestra as a replacement, the player opted for Chelsea, prompting the Nerazzurri to shift their focus to Anan Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise.
