Real Madrid have completed the signing of Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan on a four-year contract.
Although the fee is undisclosed, reports indicate the Spanish club triggered the 30-year-old’s €20m (£17.1m) release clause.
The right-sided defender becomes Real’s fourth summer addition after Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konate, and will compete with England international Trent Alexander-Arnold for a starting spot.
Since arriving from PSV in 2021, Dumfries helped Inter win two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies.
He made 207 appearances for the Nerazzurri, recording 27 goals and 28 assists, and featured as the Netherlands reached the last 32 at this summer’s World Cup.
After a trophyless season, president Florentino Perez pledged during his successful re-election campaign to reinforce the defense, and he has also brought back Jose Mourinho for a second spell as manager.
