England’s players will be told to avoid jumping over pitchside advertising boards after Jordan Henderson was injured celebrating the World Cup win over Mexico.
The Brentford midfielder is expected to undergo surgery on a wrist injury sustained following the 3-2 victory at the Azteca, leaving his participation in the rest of the tournament in serious doubt.
Henderson, 36, landed awkwardly while trying to clear the hoardings during the celebrations and was taken off on a stretcher.
Manager Thomas Tuchel is set to instruct the squad to stop leaping the boards to prevent similar incidents.
Speaking to BBC One, Tuchel said Henderson fell and hurt his wrist, adding that it appears to be a serious injury that has cast a shadow over the night. He confirmed the player is in hospital.
Henderson remained in a Mexico City hospital on Sunday evening with a member of England’s medical staff and did not travel with the team back to their base in Kansas City.
