Meslier: Biggest Club in…

Illan Meslier, the new goalkeeper for Arsenal, has expressed his determination to “prove that I want to play” following his departure from Leeds, where he completed his contract at Elland Road.

The 26-year-old previously made 215 appearances for Leeds but tragically lost his starting position last season.

“I’m extremely happy today. Joining the champions is a significant moment for me,” Meslier stated in an interview with club media.

“This is the largest club in England, and I’m thrilled to be part of it. It’s a tremendous opportunity for me, and I aim to help the team achieve back-to-back successes.”

Reflecting on his previous season, he remarked, “Last year was unique for me, in a strange way. Unfortunately, setbacks are common in a player’s career. However, I never give up and continue to work hard in training, ready to assist my teammates whenever needed.”

Amid uncertainty surrounding current second-choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Arsenal is actively exploring the market for a potential replacement.

Meslier joins Arsenal as the third-choice goalkeeper, behind David Raya and Arrizabalaga. With doubts about Kepa’s future this summer, there’s a possibility that Meslier could step up into the second-choice position.

“This season, I want to demonstrate my eagerness to play,” Meslier added. “I can’t wait to showcase my passion for this club and am eager to lift trophies, as this club deserves to win repeatedly.”
