New Newcastle signing Sean Steur has expressed his “incredible feeling” after finalizing his £23 million transfer from Ajax to what he calls a “giant club.”
The 18-year-old midfielder is the third player under the age of 20 to join the Magpies this summer, following Bazoumana Toure and Ewen Jaouen.
He has signed a five-year contract that runs until 2031.
“Playing in the best league in the world has always been my dream, so this is truly exciting,” Steur shared with the club’s media team.
“I have great memories from my time at Ajax, where I’ve been since I was seven, but when a club like Newcastle expresses interest, it’s difficult to turn them down. The past few days have flown by, and I’m thrilled to be here.”
Steur made a name for himself at Ajax during the latter half of last season, becoming a regular starter, including featured moments in the De Klassieker victory over Feyenoord when he was just 17.
Magpies manager Eddie Howe praised Steur as a “top young prospect,” stating, “We see genuine potential in Sean and believe he possesses the qualities to be a key player for us in the years ahead.”
“He’s an exciting new addition to our squad, having been well nurtured at Ajax, a club renowned for developing young talent.”
