The final, held at New York New Jersey Stadium, kicked off with an elaborate closing ceremony. Following a performance of the U.S. national anthem, sung by Jennifer Hudson, the prestigious World Cup trophy was unveiled in an unexpected medium: a specialized Louis Vuitton trunk.

Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz and South Korean actress Jung Ho-Yeon unveiled the trunk, setting it on a pedestal and opening it to display the legendary golden trophy inside.
The ceremony then transitioned to a speech from Tom Cruise, who appeared dressed in all black and earnestly addressed the significance of the World Cup and the sport as a whole.
“More than 30 days ago, 48 nations began a journey. They crossed oceans, they crossed borders, they crossed cultures. And together, they showed us why this game belongs to the world,” Cruise remarked.
The proceedings undoubtedly left many puzzled. One might wonder why a luxury brand was chosen to create the trophy case and why Cruise, who participated in a pre-recorded segment for Fox that promoted his upcoming film, “Digger,” was selected to speak on the topic of soccer.
Additionally, questions linger about the overall expense of the event. Given the exorbitant costs for the event, it’s likely that FIFA opted to go all out for the celebration.
Regardless, this is quintessential FIFA: quirky and a bit excessive. Most fans were likely just eager for the match to finally begin.
