Manchester United is facing backlash from several supporter groups after many fans discovered restrictions on their online season-ticket accounts.
However, critics argue that the club’s methods have been overly strict, raising concerns that innocent fans could unjustly lose their season tickets due to account limitations.
In a joint statement, the groups remarked: “Professional touting, automated purchasing, and those who exploit supporters for financial gain have no place at Manchester United and warrant strong action.

“Nonetheless, any action taken must be fair, proportionate, and transparent. Lifelong supporters who’ve devoted decades, often spanning multiple generations, should not feel treated as suspects without concrete evidence, due process, or a genuine chance to address the claims made against them.
“Current perceptions among fans suggest a ‘Ban first, inquire later’ mentality. Investigations should clarify facts before any penalties are enforced.
“The club and its fans share a common goal: ensuring tickets are fairly used by genuine supporters while maintaining the integrity of the ticketing system.
“This goal can only be achieved through trust, transparency, proper enforcement, well-considered systems, and meaningful engagement with fans—not by fostering an environment where devoted supporters fear jeopardizing long-standing relationships with the club.”
When approached by the Press Association, Manchester United opted not to comment on the matter or the supporters’ groups’ statement.
This past weekend, MUST reported that the club issued “account suspensions and season ticket cancellation notices to thousands of supporters,” stating they have been inundated with requests for assistance.
The supporters’ groups’ statement continued: “The fans’ forum has rightly urged the club to pause any further suspensions and halt any season ticket cancellations until meaningful discussions can take place.”
According to PA, the club has requested information from fans regarding any discrepancies in their accounts that resemble typical touting behavior, ensuring that no sanctions will be enforced until either a response is received or 14 days pass without one.
No penalties have been enforced following the initial notification, and it is understood that any canceled season tickets will be reallocated to individuals on the waiting list or those with a cup season ticket.
