Chelsea has finalized the acquisition of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a record-setting deal reportedly totaling £117m, bolstering Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The 23-year-old has signed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s leading attacking talents during his tenure at Villa. This transfer fee surpasses the previous record of £115m that Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023, also marking a new record for a British player.

Rogers departs Villa following an exceptional 2025-26 season, during which he played a pivotal role in helping the Midlands club secure the Europa League title, contributing both a goal and assist in the final against Freiburg. He also scored 10 goals in the Premier League and solidified his position as a regular member of the England squad, providing an assist during the Three Lions’ journey to the World Cup semi-finals this summer.

Chelsea successfully outmaneuvered Arsenal, who had targeted Rogers as a key transfer acquisition, by swiftly reaching an agreement with Villa. The versatile forward is anticipated to bring additional creativity and a goal-scoring threat to Alonso’s side, as the manager sees him as an integral part of his long-term vision.
