The German Football Federation (DFB) has scheduled a news conference for Friday, where it’s anticipated that Jürgen Klopp will be announced as the new national team coach.
In a brief statement on Thursday, the federation did not provide a specific reason for the event set to take place on Friday morning at its headquarters in Frankfurt.
Klopp, the former manager of Liverpool, has emerged as the top choice following Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation after Germany’s unexpected elimination in the World Cup round of 32 due to a penalty shootout defeat against Paraguay.
While serving as a TV analyst during the World Cup in New York, Klopp engaged in discussions with German football officials. The DFB announced on July 11 that they had come to an agreement on the “essential key points” of a contract.
Initially, the primary challenge was obtaining consent from drinks conglomerate Red Bull, where Klopp has worked for the past year and a half as the head of global soccer, managing Red Bull-supported clubs worldwide.
Klopp has not taken on a coaching role since departing Liverpool in 2024, citing a need for rest. Recently, he expressed that he feels “recharged” and is eager to take on a new position.
