This season, AC Milan will commemorate its 127th anniversary, just before the start of 2027. With a legacy as rich as theirs, it’s fitting to reflect on what was happening with the Club a century ago. Today, our lives are filled with PINs and passwords—codes that provide access to our necessary tools and services. But back in 1927, AC Milan already had its very own “Pin.” On April 3, 1927, the Rossoneri secured a 2-1 away victory against Inter in the final matchweek of the season, witnessed by 20,000 fans, thanks to a stunning performance by “Pin” Santagostino. Under the guidance of coach Burgess, the team was anchored by captain Gianangelo Barzan and featured key players like Ostromann and Savelli.
“Pin” was the key figure—he was essential to their success. Born in Milan in 1901, Santagostino wore the Rossoneri jersey for 11 seasons, scoring an impressive 105 goals in 235 matches. He made an explosive debut, and despite some challenges with injuries, he bounced back to regain his prolific goal-scoring abilities. A product of AC Milan’s youth academy, Santagostino became one of the Club’s most devoted players. In the 1927/28 season alone, he netted 24 goals in 32 games. Despite numerous offers from other clubs, “Pin” chose to stay loyal to AC Milan, striving for success with the team he cherished. Throughout the challenging years between 1907 and 1951, he remained a pivotal figure for the Club. A true Rossonero, he later returned to AC Milan as a coach after spending a season with Nice, where he again donned the red and black colors.
