Joe Gomez Injury Clouds…

Andoni Iraola described the injury of Joe Gomez as the “worst news” following his team’s 4-2 victory over Sunderland in Nashville, marking the start of his Liverpool tenure.

The 29-year-old Gomez had to leave the field just 10 minutes into Liverpool’s first pre-season friendly due to a suspected muscle injury.

As Liverpool’s longest-serving player, Gomez has faced numerous injury challenges during his time at Anfield.

The team’s defensive resources are currently limited, especially with captain Virgil van Dijk still absent following the World Cup.

New signing Jeremy Jacquet is still working on his fitness, while Giovanni Leoni continues to recover from an ACL injury he sustained early last season.

“The worst news is undoubtedly Joe’s injury,” Iraola commented after the match.

“We were pleased to have gone through training without any injuries, but unfortunately, we’ve lost Joe right away.”

Iraola noted that Jacquet is unlikely to play until the last match of the pre-season tour due to his shoulder injury.

Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Federico Chiesa, Kieran Morrison, and Lewis Koumas contributed to Liverpool’s 4-2 victory, with the team set to face Wrexham on Thursday.

Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Ryan Gravenberch are expected to join Liverpool’s training on Sunday after integrating into the pre-season squad.
