Arsenal is growing more optimistic about securing a transfer for Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United following the expected departure of manager Eddie Howe, as reported by ESPN’s James Olley.
Guimarães has become one of Arsenal’s top targets this summer, with Mikel Arteta seeking to bolster his squad for the upcoming season as they aim to defend their Premier League title.
Sources indicate that Howe is likely to leave Newcastle, while Anthony Gordon has already joined Barcelona, and Sandro Tonali has transferred to Tottenham, marking a period of significant departures for the club in the northeast.
With Howe’s anticipated departure, Arsenal feels even more assured about finalizing a deal for Guimarães. While a transfer fee has yet to be agreed upon, sources suggest that Newcastle might accept an offer exceeding £70 million ($94 million).
Initially, Newcastle was intent on retaining the Brazilian midfielder, but they have come to recognize Guimarães’ desire to join the Premier League champions.
Guimarães was part of the Brazilian national team that faced a surprising exit in the World Cup round of 16 against Norway.
Since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022, he has made 153 appearances in the Premier League.
