Arne Slot is looking to make a comeback in club management within Europe’s top leagues, according to sources from ESPN. This comes even as he emerges as a frontrunner to succeed Matthias Jaissle, who is set to join Newcastle United, at the Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli.
At 47, Slot has been without a position since his dismissal from Liverpool in May, where he spent two seasons at the helm.
The former Feyenoord manager led Liverpool to a Premier League title during his first season after taking over from Jurgen Klopp. However, he left the club at the conclusion of the last season, still having a year remaining on his contract, and was succeeded by Andoni Iraola.
According to sources, Slot has received interest from clubs in England, Germany, and Italy this summer since parting ways with Liverpool. Additionally, he is being considered in the Netherlands as a potential successor to Ronald Koeman as head coach for the men’s national team following the team’s elimination in the World Cup round of 32.
ESPN reported on Thursday that Eddie Howe is poised to leave his position as head coach of Newcastle, concluding a five-year tenure. As Jaissle is expected to take over Howe’s role, Al Ahli appears eager to enlist Slot as head coach at their Jeddah-based club.
Despite the opportunity in Saudi Arabia, Slot intends to prioritize a return to the European club scene for his next position after achieving success in both the Netherlands and England.
