Eddie Howe expressed that managing Newcastle has been the highlight of his career after announcing his resignation as head coach.
According to sources at ESPN, Howe will be stepping down from his position following a five-year tenure at St. James’ Park.
During his time with the Magpies, the 48-year-old ended a 70-year drought for domestic trophies by securing the Carabao Cup in 2025 and leading the team to Champions League qualification on two occasions.
However, last season’s disappointing performance saw Newcastle finish in 12th place in the Premier League, alongside a challenging transfer window this summer.
After overseeing a 4-1 defeat against Bristol City in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night, it was revealed the next day that Howe would be leaving after nearly five years in charge.
The Premier League club officially announced his departure on Friday afternoon, expressing gratitude for his “extraordinary contribution” and confirming their acceptance of his decision to resign.
In a heartfelt statement upon his departure, Howe said: “Following a period of personal reflection, I have decided that now is the right time for me to step away as head coach of Newcastle United.
“After nearly five years of dedicating my life, heart, and soul to the club with unwavering energy, I believe it is in the best interests of both myself and the club for me to take a break and recharge.
