Gabby George nears…

Manchester United defender Gabby George is nearing a move to Brighton ahead of the new Women’s Super League season.

The 29-year-old has a year left on her deal after United triggered an option in January, meaning Brighton are expected to pay a six-figure fee for the versatile defender, who joined in 2023. George is seeking regular minutes and is seen as a strong addition to Brighton’s ambitious squad.

During her time at United, she has made more than 50 appearances and was part of the team that won the Women’s FA Cup in 2024. An Everton academy graduate, George played over 100 games for the Toffees before moving to United, and she has three England caps.

Dario Vidosic’s Brighton have already added Switzerland captain Lia Walti and midfielder Emilie Joramo from Hammarby, among others. The Seagulls finished seventh in the WSL last season and begin this campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September (12:00 BST). Meanwhile, United confirmed on Monday that manager Marc Skinner has left by mutual consent, and the club is assessing candidates to replace him.
