Wrexham has officially signed midfielder Ben Whiteman from Preston North End on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, the club announced on Wednesday.
At 30 years old, Whiteman served as captain for Preston in the English Championship last season, contributing two goals and five assists over 43 league matches.

He is Wrexham’s second signing of the summer, following the acquisition of defender Danny Imray from Crystal Palace, as the ambitious Welsh club aims for promotion to the Premier League.
“Joining Wrexham is an incredible feeling, and I’m absolutely thrilled,” said Whiteman in a club statement. “I believe any player in the Championship would want to be part of this Football Club right now.”
“Wrexham aims to reach the Premier League, and that’s a goal I share. So, once I learned of their interest, it was hard to overlook.”
Whiteman developed in the Manchester United academy before moving to Sheffield United, then transferring to Doncaster in 2018, and finally to Preston in 2021.
He made more than 220 appearances for Preston during his five-and-a-half years at Deepdale.
Wrexham, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has enjoyed a record three consecutive promotions and narrowly missed out on playoff contention last season.
