Jules Kounde is the latest Barcelona player to return to training this summer following his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, shortly after his return, Kounde has been linked with a potential departure from Camp Nou, with Arsenal reportedly among the clubs interested in acquiring him.
It appears that Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for a versatile defender to bolster his squad this summer, and Kounde is seen as a prime candidate.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Arsenal have yet to make any formal moves to sign Kounde.
While it is confirmed that the Gunners are pursuing a new center-back, no discussions have taken place between the North London club and Barcelona regarding Kounde’s transfer.
Romano notes that Kounde could be a perfect fit for Arteta, who seeks a versatile defender capable of playing both as a center-back and right-back.
For now, however, there is no substantial progress concerning Kounde’s potential departure from Barcelona.
Kounde’s Uncertain Role at Barcelona Next Season

Much of the uncertainty surrounding Kounde’s future at Barcelona likely arises from the fact that he doesn’t hold a clearly defined role in Hansi Flick’s plans for the upcoming season.
At this point, it makes sense to anticipate that the French international will continue as Barcelona’s primary right-back. However, the situation is evolving.
Kounde’s performance in the previous season left much to be desired, as he struggled with consistency. Additionally, Barcelona is actively pursuing Joao Cancelo, who had a standout season as a left-back.

The Catalan club also boasts a larger pool of right-back options this year, with Xavi Espart impressing Flick during pre-season and Eric Garcia having previously made his mark.
This increased competition could lead to Kounde being considered as a center-back option. With Ronald Araujo‘s departure, Barcelona is in need of an additional option in central defense, and Kounde would seamlessly fit that role since he views center-back as his primary position.
