When Barcelona acquired Ferran Torres in 2022, the club was navigating one of its most challenging times in history.
Years of poor financial decisions by previous presidents had caught up with the Catalan club, resulting in the loss of their greatest player, Lionel Messi, the summer before the season started.
After the COVID pandemic, Barcelona had little to spend over two or three transfer windows.
In this difficult context, Barça managed to negotiate a deal with Manchester City for around €55 million for the Spanish forward.
Since then, Ferran has spent four and a half seasons at the Catalan club before recently agreeing to join PSG, where he will play under Luis Enrique this summer.
Barça and PSG have reached a preliminary agreement for the 26-year-old forward at a fixed fee of €50 million, as he approaches the final year of his contract.
Barcelona Avoids Significant Payment to Manchester City
According to reports from Nil Sola and Santi Ovalle on Cadena SER, a critical aspect of the transfer concerns the original agreement that brought Ferran from Manchester City to Barcelona.

If the transfer fee for Ferran’s move to PSG were to hit €55 million, Barcelona would incur an additional €10 million payment to Manchester City.
This highlights the importance of the structure of the PSG agreement, allowing Barcelona to avoid extra payments with a deal at around €50 million without add-ons.
Furthermore, this enables the Catalan club to secure a significant transfer fee for a player who has limited time left on his contract.
Ferran Expressed Interest in the PSG Move
Negotiations gained momentum when PSG indicated they had already reached an agreement on personal terms with Ferran.
The two clubs have been in talks for several days and have now reached an initial understanding.
In addition, documentation is expected to be exchanged as they aim to finalize the transfer over the upcoming weekend.
For Barcelona, quickly concluding the deal would also offer them clarity regarding the remaining parts of their transfer window, as they are still pursuing several key signings.

The timing of Ferran’s departure is also noteworthy.
He leaves after a particularly strong phase at Barcelona, having scored 40 goals in his final two seasons and emerging as a key figure during Spain’s World Cup success, scoring in the final match.
This strong ending has allowed Barcelona to recuperate a considerable part of their initial investment.
The fee that Barça will receive appears quite attractive, considering all the factors involved.
Receiving an additional €5 million from PSG could lead to a €10 million obligation to City, suggesting that Barcelona could be financially worse off by crossing that threshold.
This makes the €50 million deal without variables potentially more appealing than a larger headline amount.
Ferran was among the first signings in this new chapter for Barcelona, and he departs with numerous fond memories wearing the Blaugrana jersey.
