Mohamed Salah made his debut for Trabzonspor as a second-half substitute, with the club starting their Turkish Süper Lig season by drawing 1-1 against Kasımpaşa.
Upon arriving at Trabzon Airport last week to finalize his free transfer, the Egypt captain was welcomed by a massive crowd of fans. He signed a two-year contract reportedly worth €17 million ($19.6 million) per season, as per ESPN sources.
The 34-year-old joined the game in the 58th minute but could not turn the tide in favor of Trabzonspor after Noah Saviolo’s first-half goal was equalized by Adrian Benedyczak’s penalty in the 55th minute.
Salah’s most notable opportunity came in the 70th minute when he shot just over the bar after controlling the ball inside the box.
The former Liverpool winger’s signing concluded months of speculation about his career path, coming after a failed move to Süper Lig rival Besiktas.
In March, Salah announced he would leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the previous season, despite having signed a new two-year deal at Anfield in April 2025.
During his eight years with Liverpool, he became the club’s third-highest all-time scorer, netting 257 goals in 442 appearances and winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
