Michael Carrick to keep…

Michael Carrick says he will keep driving recruitment to strengthen Manchester United’s squad this summer.

As he prepares for his first full Premier League season in charge at Old Trafford, Carrick calls leading such a global club a privilege, while accepting it means fronting tough media questions — including concerns about the pace of signings.

He’s pleased with the business so far: £83m spent on Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, plus free agent Karl Darlow as back-up goalkeeper. But with clear needs at left-back and in central midfield, and a Champions League return after two years away, he insists the work must continue.

After missing out on targets like Elliot Anderson and Matheus Fernandes by refusing to match rival bids — and with overall spending behind promoted Ipswich and Coventry — Carrick accepts more deals are required, while avoiding the costly mistakes of previous windows.

“We want and need more, and we’ll keep searching for the right ways to do it,” he said, adding that while finances matter, United must aim to compete on all fronts, be realistic about recent history, make the most of what they have now, and push every boundary to start winning again. “That’s the task.”
