Olympic legend Usain Bolt…

Eight-time Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt has signed up to play for a veterans’ Sunday league side in Manchester.

The Football Association’s Full-Time website lists the 40-year-old Jamaican as a registered player for Wythenshawe Vets FC, who compete in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Veterans Football League.

The south Manchester over-35s outfit drew attention last year for assembling a squad packed with former Premier League players.

This season’s Wythenshawe squad features ex-professionals including England and Liverpool forward Emile Heskey, former Everton striker Oumar Niasse, ex-Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia, former Newcastle striker Papiss Cissé, Manchester City alumni Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha, and Premier League title winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Bolt remains the fastest man ever over 100m and 200m, having set both world records at the 2009 World Championships.

He retired from athletics in 2017 and subsequently pursued a career in professional football.

In 2018, Bolt scored twice in a friendly for A-League side Central Coast Mariners, signing with the club after turning down a two-year offer from Malta’s Valletta, but departed after just eight weeks.

Wythenshawe, who have not yet officially confirmed Bolt’s registration, have been contacted for comment.
