Liverpool draw up back

Liverpool is nearing a deal to transfer Cody Gakpo to Manchester City.

The 27-year-old Dutch player signed a new contract last season worth £250k per week, extending his stay until 2030. However, it appears he won’t fulfill that contract with the club.

Manchester City is reportedly preparing an £85m offer for the adaptable forward, who has shown his talent early in the season under manager Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool seeks another winger

In the meantime, Liverpool has secured a deal for Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, costing £123m including add-ons, effectively taking Gakpo’s position in the squad.

However, Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola are not stopping here. They are aiming to secure an additional wing option as the transfer window approaches its deadline.

Candidates for this role include Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh. Sarr, 28, would join from Crystal Palace as a right-footed option for the right wing.

Minteh currently sidelined

Minteh has a history of scoring against Liverpool and has helped his club win both the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League. Currently, however, he is injured and likely won’t be returning to play until October or November.

Previously, Brighton was holding out for around £80m to sell the left-footed Gambian, who transferred from Newcastle in 2024. A report from Football Insider claims that Richard Hughes is reconsidering a deal for Minteh.

The report describes the move for Minteh as “dead in the water”, indicating that Liverpool is putting the deal on hold for the moment.

Liverpool to revisit Minteh in January

Despite this, the 2024/25 Premier League champions are expected to return for a deal with the talented African forward in January.

“Liverpool could rekindle their interest in Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh during the January transfer window,” according to a report.

“Liverpool remains keen on Minteh and will monitor his recovery from injury closely.”

The report also suggests that Liverpool will only pursue this deal if they have not secured any other wingers before the summer deadline.

Liverpool aims to strengthen their attack with another option alongside Barcola, and if they are unable to do so, they may reallocate their winger budget towards Minteh in the new year.
