Reports suggest that Napoli is looking to secure a loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in January, following the paths of Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund.

The club had made an inquiry during the summer, and Mainoo showed interest in the move, but Manchester United opted to retain him.

Since then, the situation has not improved; the 20-year-old has only made six appearances this season, logging one assist, and his sole start came during the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town.

Frustrated with his lack of playtime, Mainoo is eager to exit during the January transfer window, making a move to Napoli a rational next step.

He has watched his former Manchester United teammates, McTominay and Hojlund, regain their form under Antonio Conte in Serie A.

Napoli is also competing in the Champions League, which means they could provide Mainoo with the regular playing time he desires.

There are increasing reports that this move is a viable option for the upcoming transfer window, even if it is only for a six-month loan.

Mainoo’s contract with Manchester United is effective until June 2027, with an option to extend.
