In a recent interview with Israeli television, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz shared his desire to end his loan spell with Hamburg prematurely. Bayern loaned the Israeli international to the newly promoted Bundesliga club for the entire season last July. Although Peretz is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Israeli national team, he has yet to make an appearance for Hamburger SV during his loan period.
Peretz’s remarks during his conversation with Israeli channel Sport 5 are intriguing, considering it was made clear that he would be competing with HSV’s regular starter, Daniel Heuer Fernandes. Peretz had a notably disappointing training camp with HSV, which resulted in him not being selected to start in Hamburg’s opening cup match.
“I’m obviously disappointed that I’m not playing in Hamburg,” Peretz expressed to the Israeli broadcaster. “I didn’t anticipate not getting any playing time. It seemed clear that I would be featured. However, what’s happening now is beyond my control. I take responsibility for my actions and behavior. Perhaps things will change in January, as I am eager to play.”
In reaction to Peretz’s comments, HSV sporting director Claus Costa spoke to transfermarkt.de. Costa clarified that Peretz simply lost the competition for the starting role against Daniel Heuer Fernandes and denied any specific promises had been made to him.
“We provided him with certain expectations, but it was clear that we already had an outstanding goalkeeper in ‘Ferro’ [Heuer Fernandes],” said Costa. “Until the very end of training camp, it was a tough competition between the two goalkeepers. The outcome is certainly disappointing for him, and it’s understandable. Anything else would have surprised me.”
