Xabi Alonso Heightens…

Last week, Joan Martinez returned to training with the Real Madrid first team for the first time in over 400 days, marking a significant milestone in his recovery journey.

During the international break, Martinez also participated in a friendly match against RM Castilla, showcasing his readiness for the first team.

Reports indicate that Xabi Alonso closely monitored Martinez’s performance during the friendly, highlighting the coach’s eagerness to accelerate his reintegration into the senior squad.

Alonso Increases Oversight of Martinez

As reported by MARCA, Alonso has been paying close attention to the 18-year-old’s development since his return from injury.

The Real Madrid coach has heightened his observation of the center-back, believing that his progress and physical conditioning after an extended injury hiatus warrant special focus.

Martinez, who was sidelined for 424 days due to a severe knee injury, has been gradually reintroduced into the team’s training regimen.

To aid in his recovery, a stint with Castilla was arranged to help him regain his rhythm and confidence, and the plan has proven effective thus far.

This season, Martinez has participated in eight matches—seven under Arbeloa in the Primera RFEF, racking up 585 minutes of play, along with one appearance in the Premier League Cup for 25 minutes.

Earlier this year, Real Madrid signaled their confidence in the young defender by extending his contract until 2026, complete with a buyout clause exceeding €50 million.

With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba currently injured and facing uncertain futures at the club, Joan Martinez’s potential rise to the first team could be crucial for the future of Real Madrid’s defensive lineup.
