Reports: Tensions Rise…

The dynamic between Vinícius Júnior and Xabi Alonso has soured following an emotional response from the forward when he was substituted during Sunday’s Clásico. This comes amid a season where the Real Madrid manager has opted to leave Vinícius out of the starting lineup on three occasions.

Vinícius showed clear frustration when Alonso replaced him with Rodrygo in the 72nd minute while Madrid was leading 2-1 at Santiago Bernabéu, questioning the decision before heading directly to the tunnel.

Previous reports from ESPN indicate that Vinícius’ representatives believe the coach may not favor the player, complicating discussions for a new contract as the Brazil international’s current deal is set to expire in 2027 and negotiations have recently stalled.

Sources clarified that while the relationship between Alonso and Vinícius is strained, it has not completely broken down.

Vinícius intends to discuss the matter with his teammates before having a direct conversation with Alonso, according to insiders.

Following the Clásico victory, Madrid players will have a two-day rest period and are scheduled to resume training on Wednesday.

During a post-match press conference, Alonso acknowledged his intention to address Vinícius’ reaction to the substitution, stating, “I’ll highlight the positive aspects of the game and Viní’s contributions. We will discuss his reaction, but I want to keep the focus on what truly matters.”

So far this season, Vinícius has recorded five goals and four assists in LaLiga.

He has been omitted from the starting lineup against both Real Oviedo and Getafe in LaLiga, as well as against Marseille in the Champions League.

Real Madrid’s recent win over Barcelona placed them five points ahead at the top of the LaLiga standings.
