Liverpool is targeting a deal for a 22-year-old player in January, as confirmed by his coach. The Reds are set to make an impact once again.
Liverpool plans to continue its activity in the January transfer window, even after a significant summer spending spree. This wasn’t merely about spending large amounts; the Reds also significantly restructured their squad by parting ways with several players.

Essentially, any player that Arne Slot deemed lacking a future with the club has left, whether on loan or permanently.
Looking ahead to the winter window, it’s likely that this trend will persist. Liverpool is particularly in need of reinforcements at center-back following Giovanni Leoni’s season-ending injury, but bringing in new players will mean letting some go as well.
Add to that, there are already players at Liverpool who are surplus to requirements. One player who started last week is already being considered for a January departure.
Calvin Ramsay’s Future at Liverpool
Calvin Ramsay made a start for Liverpool last week during their match against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. The right-back had a solid performance, arguably standing out as one of the best players on the field.
He got the opportunity to play after Jeremie Frimpong’s injury left Conor Bradley as the only right-back available in the first-team squad. Slot preferred not to risk Bradley before the crucial upcoming matches, making Ramsay a sensible choice for the backline.
Slot also expressed his satisfaction with Ramsay’s performance.
“I think Calvin had a very good game—calm on the ball,” he remarked after the match. “In the first half-hour, we created better chances than them, and he was a contributing factor to that.
“He played with composure. It was a decent-to-good showing from him.”
Yet, it appears Ramsay’s future with Liverpool may not be long-term. He currently finds himself more aligned with the under-21 squad, competing regularly for them.
However, this is not the level the 22-year-old desires. Under-21s coach Rob Page mentioned to This Is Anfield that there is a collective aim to secure a bigger opportunity for him.
“It’s been a focused effort among several staff members, including the medical team, sports science staff, and coaches, to prepare him for a point in January when we can seriously consider getting him a loan move or figuring out the next steps for Rambo,” Page noted.
This sentiment rings true. Ramsay does need to advance, whether that’s through a strong loan that enhances his reputation or a permanent transfer to a club that will further his development.
Liverpool is hopeful that the right opportunity will arise for the 22-year-old, and we don’t anticipate them being overly selective.
