Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has expressed that senior players such as Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Harry Maguire “need to perform significantly better” for the team.
Recently, United seems to be experiencing a resurgence, having secured three consecutive wins under Ruben Amorim, marking their first such streak before Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
However, during his appearance on The Overlap and Betfair’s Stick to Cricket show, Neville voiced concerns regarding the team’s “ageing” core.
He remarked, “The spine of a football team is essential. When I joined Man United, our core consisted of [Peter] Schmeichel, [Steve] Bruce, [Gary] Pallister, [Roy] Keane, and [Eric] Cantona, which was pivotal.”
“I believe that Maguire and [Matthijs] De Ligt must elevate their performances. Given their wealth of experience, they should be doing far better.”

“De Ligt has played numerous matches at top levels, and Harry has considerable experience playing for England. Both Casemiro and Bruno possess vast experience in midfield.”
“Up front, they lack experience, but I feel that the spine comprising Bruno Fernandes [31], Casemiro [33], Maguire [32], and De Ligt [26] is aging and should be better at anchoring the team than they currently are.”
