On Tuesday night, Achraf Hakimi departed the Parc des Princes on crutches after sustaining an injury due to a scissor tackle from Luís Diaz, who was subsequently shown a red card. At the time of the dismissal, just before half-time, the former Liverpool striker had already scored twice, putting Bayern Munich in a commanding position against a lackluster PSG.
Despite Diaz’s red card allowing PSG a chance to regroup in the second half, Bayern Munich managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory. This marked PSG’s first defeat in their UEFA Champions League campaign and their second loss across all competitions.
Diaz’s performance sparked discussions following the match. Josip Stanisic commented light-heartedly as he walked through the mixed zone, making a joke about the Colombian’s night that many found inappropriate. “No, he didn’t apologize for the red card; we thanked him… I’m just kidding,” the Bayern Munich player said, a remark that drew criticism considering Hakimi’s injury, the seriousness of which remains unclear.
Teammate Dayot Upamecano has since sought to soften the impact of Stanisic’s remarks. He posted on Instagram, tagging Hakimi and stating, “Don’t look for controversy where there is none. Sorry about your injury. Get well soon.”
