Barcelona’s Hopes Dashed…

Barcelona plans to acquire a striker in 2026, as Robert Lewandowski is not expected to receive a contract extension before his current deal expires next summer. The club’s sporting department has identified several potential targets, with Karl Etta Eyong reportedly rising to the top of their list.

Etta Eyong has been impressive this season, contributing six goals and three assists for Villarreal and Levante, the club he joined late in the summer transfer window. Barcelona is keen on him, particularly since a transfer in the winter window could be secured for around €30 million, as reported.

However, Levante CEO José Danvila has ruled out the possibility of Etta Eyong departing in January, according to Radio Marca (via Sport). He stated, “He’s not going to leave this winter. I hear constant rumors, and we receive daily offers, but we won’t sell Etta Eyong in this winter transfer window. Our top priority is to avoid relegation. It would be counterproductive to make an effort in the summer only to sell him mid-season. The club’s main asset is remaining in the First Division, regardless of any large offers we might receive.”

Barcelona Must Await Until Next Summer for Etta Eyong

Levante’s stance on Etta Eyong being untouchable this winter makes sense, especially as his performance could be pivotal in their fight against relegation. Consequently, Barcelona will likely have to wait to secure his signing, provided he remains their target to succeed Lewandowski. Fortunately for them, the 22-year-old is reportedly prioritizing a move to Catalonia.
