Aston Villa secured a much-needed victory in the Europa League, triumphing 2-0 over Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv at Villa Park on Thursday night.

The match began with Maccabi making the first threat as Helio Varela’s shot from just outside the box was blocked, followed by Emiliano Martinez saving Elad Madmon’s weak attempt.

Villa recorded their first shot in the 19th minute when Jadon Sancho linked up with Donyell Malen on the left side, but the Dutch forward’s attempt was deflected away.

Morgan Rogers skillfully navigated through the defense for another chance, yet goalkeeper Roi Mashpati intervened to block his shot.

Not long after, Mashpati showcased his skills again by denying Malen from close range.

Ian Maatsen broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time with a stunning finish from a tight angle.

Shortly after the second half resumed, Maatsen came close to extending Villa’s lead, but his shot was saved by the Maccabi keeper.

Martinez produced an outstanding save to prevent Dor Peretz from equalizing, while Mashpati matched his Villa counterpart with another impressive stop on Malen’s attempt.

The Netherlands international finally put Villa ahead 2-0 in the 58th minute after Ezri Konsa was fouled in the box, converting the penalty with confidence.

John McGinn came on for Sancho in the 75th minute, marking his 300th appearance for the club.

Mashpati continued to shine in goal, thwarting substitute Youri Tielemans from increasing Villa’s scoreline with a magnificent stop.

Tielemans nearly notched an assist towards the end, setting up Malen for a one-on-one, but once again, Mashpati was up to the task.

Maccabi struggled to mount any serious threat in the closing stages, allowing Villa to comfortably manage the remainder of the match.
