UEFA Europa Conference League, Round 3, 06/11/2025

RC Strasbourg Alsace maintained their unbeaten run in the UEFA Europa Conference League by defeating BK Häcken 2-1 in Sweden.

The Match

The playing surface at Gamla Ullevi presented challenges quite different from what Strasbourg is accustomed to. The pitch was uneven and worn, with patches of freshly laid grass near each goal, resembling a battleground. This was fitting for a Häcken team determined to challenge their wealthier adversaries.

Häcken applied pressure early, attempting to disrupt Le Racing’s build-up play. However, their strategy had limited success as Strasbourg managed to control the ball and carefully navigate around Häcken’s initial defense, with the hosts holding firm and limiting significant chances in the first half.

Sam Amo-Ameyaw showcased skill with a run from the right wing, weaving through tackles before setting up Rafael Luís, who unfortunately sent his shot soaring over the bar. The best opportunity came in the 21st minute when Martial Godo delivered a perfect cross to Julio Enciso, who headed it in from close range, giving Strasbourg the opening goal.

Despite a lackluster first half, it was no surprise when Liam Rosenior turned to his bench during the break. Guela Doué, Diego Moreira, and Kendry Páez came on for Ben Chilwell, Lucas Høgsberg, and Enciso. The game ignited just after half-time as Moreira linked up with Amo-Ameyaw at the far post, who set up Godo again. After a miscue on the first attempt, Godo redeemed himself with a well-placed finish.

Responding immediately, Häcken took to the attack. Mike Penders found himself out of position, allowing John Paul Dembe a clear path to round the goalkeeper and score into an empty net. The Swedish side pushed hard for an equalizer, and although Emanuel Emegha was dispossessed just outside the box, Mikkel Rygaard’s shot went wide of the target.
