Chris Davies, the head coach of Birmingham City, reflects on what has been an “eventful season” as the team prepares for Saturday’s match against Sheffield United.
Following their recent 1-0 victory over QPR, Davies’ squad is currently sitting in 10th place and is hopeful that Tommy Doyle will return to the lineup to face the Blades.

“Kai Wagner will be absent, but both Tommy [Doyle] and August [Priske] have been training, so we’re monitoring their responses, especially since they’ve been dealing with some illness,” he shared in an interview with BBC Radio WM.
“It looks likely that Tommy will be part of the squad, and we’ll evaluate August as well; they are our primary concerns. We won’t see Kai Wagner until after the international break.”
Davies emphasized that “everything is easier” after a win and that his team is eager for another three points to maintain their challenge for a spot in the top six.
“There’s a much-needed boost in morale around the team, and the players are looking forward to this upcoming match,” he said.

“This league is unique. While the Premier League features top-tier quality, there is a considerable gap between the top and bottom teams here.”
“At the start of the season, I mentioned that out of the 24 teams in the Championship, 20 of them are confident about their promotion prospects or believe they have the squad to compete. Only a few are solely focused on survival, which means the competition is tight among teams.”
He continued: “This is why the league is so entertaining. The frequency of matches also brings fatigue into play. Managing injuries and keeping players fit are crucial, contributing to the league’s excitement and showcasing a wealth of talent.”

“It’s a captivating league. It feels like we’ve had a very eventful season, but I believe other clubs would echo the same sentiment.”
“I once heard that resilience is the most important trait in football, and I think that rings true here. You need to be resilient in this league because you’ll face challenges, and it’s essential to quickly regain your composure.”
