Jean-Philippe Mateta’s (28) move to AC Milan was thwarted by a knee issue in January, but the Serie A club remains interested in the Crystal Palace forward, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Mateta expressed his desire to leave Crystal Palace in January and seemed close to finalizing a transfer to Nottingham Forest before AC Milan showed interest. However, medical evaluations uncovered a knee problem that could have necessitated surgery, which was fortunately avoided.
Despite a strained relationship with Crystal Palace fans, Mateta concluded the season strongly, scoring the decisive goal in the UEFA Europa Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano. His impressive performance earned him a place in both Crystal Palace folklore and the France squad for the FIFA World Cup.
Now, speculation about his departure has resurfaced. The connection between Mateta and AC Milan persists, especially with the possibility of former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner taking the helm at the Italian club. If the French international decides to leave this summer, his likely destinations include a Premier League rival or another Serie A team.
