Alan Shearer: Declan Rice…

Alan Shearer: Declan Rice…

According to Alan Shearer, even if Arsenal secures a victory in the Premier League, it may not be enough for Declan Rice to edge out Bruno Fernandes for the Player of the Season title.

Fernandes has been a standout performer for Manchester United this season, playing a pivotal role during a challenging period, especially at the tail end of Ruben Amorim’s tenure and in the revival of the club under Michael Carrick.

This Portuguese midfielder has recorded eight goals and 16 assists across 28 matches, proving crucial in United’s quest for Champions League qualification, currently placing third in the standings, seven points clear of Chelsea in sixth.

He finds himself among the frontrunners for the Premier League Player of the Season award alongside Rice, who is currently considered the bookmakers’ favorite.

However, Shearer, a two-time PFA Players’ Player of the Year, suggests that Rice may need to bring home significant silverware to surpass Fernandes.

“I think both Declan Rice and Bruno Fernandes are excellent candidates,” Shearer shared with Betfair.

“Manchester United have faced numerous challenges this season, yet Bruno has consistently shone. His performance has been vital for them.”

“Despite all the trials Manchester United has gone through, Bruno has remained a steady influence in terms of performance and attitude.”

“While he might not please everyone, his contributions have been outstanding. He’s undoubtedly been the standout player for Manchester United for quite some time.”

“On the other hand, Declan Rice has also been instrumental for Arsenal, driving them through tough matches. The outcome may depend on which teams are successful.”

“If Arsenal were to win the treble or a double, it would likely favor an Arsenal player, with Rice being one of the top contenders.”

Currently, Arsenal sits nine points ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand, at the top of the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s team is aiming to end a 22-year wait for a league title.

In addition, the Gunners are competing for titles in the Champions League and FA Cup, although they recently fell short in their first trophy attempt, losing the Carabao Cup final to City last Sunday.
