Massimiliano Allegri has expressed that he is unconcerned about Christian Pulisic’s goal drought in 2026 and has identified potential players to step in for the injured Luka Modric. However, he refrained from discussing the possibility of selling Rafael Leao this summer.
During his standard pre-match press conference on Saturday, Allegri looked ahead to his team’s match against Sassuolo set for that day.

Allegri began his press conference by paying tribute to the late Alex Zanardi, a former Formula One driver turned Paralympian, who recently passed away at 59. He remarked, “It’s important to remember Zanardi, who was a true example in life, showcasing human and athletic values. His commitment and passion for sports were admirable. My condolences to his family.”
The discussion soon shifted to Serie A as Allegri faced the challenge of replacing Modric, who suffered a cheekbone fracture in a match against Juventus last weekend.
“We’re deeply disappointed about this unfortunate injury, which will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season, even though he is eager to make a return,” Allegri commented. “His passion for the game is evident, and I hope this serves as an inspiration for other players. We have several capable players to fill his role, including Jashari and Ricci, both of whom have developed significantly and in whom I have great confidence.”
“Jashari has made substantial progress despite suffering an unfortunate injury earlier this season that set him back. He is enthusiastic and has a promising future ahead of him, which makes me believe that Milan’s signing of him was a wise decision.”
Allegri mentioned that he recently met with Milan’s senior management to discuss the team’s performance and future plans, stating, “This is a standard procedure. Evaluations are made based on the current season as well as future prospects, though the final assessment will occur at season’s end. We have established a solid foundation, but our goal is to secure a Champions League spot.”

Responding to questions about the ongoing refereeing scandal in Serie A, Allegri stated, “I haven’t formed a definitive opinion yet; these are sensitive issues. The oversight bodies will make the necessary evaluations. Considering everything that has transpired, the last round was a success for the referees, who performed well despite the psychological pressures.”
All season long, Allegri has emphasized that Milan’s primary goal is to return to the Champions League. As they draw closer to qualification and with Inter potentially winning the Scudetto soon, Allegri was asked if securing a second-place finish is now the aim for the Rossoneri.
“We need to give our best. Tomorrow’s match is challenging because Sassuolo is skilled and can score at any moment. They have talented players and a good coach,” Allegri said. “Grosso is the standout revelation of this Serie A season; he has made significant advancements. Tomorrow marks the first of our final four matches; we need to approach it calmly, ensuring we don’t let the opportunity slip away.”

When questioned about the possibility of Rafael Leao leaving the club in the summer transfer window, Allegri responded, “Discussing the market at this juncture is unproductive. We have our sights set on returning to the Champions League, and the entire team must concentrate on achieving that. At the end of the season, we will review and evaluate how we can enhance our performance moving forward.”

Allegri also shared his thoughts on summer acquisition Christopher Nkunku: “He possesses exceptional technical abilities. He has faced challenges but still managed to find the net. Perhaps starting tomorrow, our forwards will begin scoring again. We don’t focus on a player’s financial worth; various factors can influence whether a player performs well in one season versus another.”
Santiago Gimenez, who just returned from injury, has been struggling to find his place in the lineup.
“He joined us last year, but struggled with an immediate ankle issue. He is an essential player for us. Regrettably, his injury sidelined him for four to five months this season, and coming back at this stage is challenging, particularly in terms of pace. He’s committed and remains a valuable member of the team despite this tough season.”
Christian Pulisic may have had ample opportunities but is yet to find the back of the net in 2026.

“Pulisic is a key player for Milan, and it is hard to find talents of his caliber,” Allegri asserted. “We shouldn’t focus solely on whether players perform well in any given year—some intrinsic qualities remain consistent.”

“He has yet to score in recent matches, but has remained active. At this point, we must prioritize team goals over individual ones, as our ultimate objective is crucial. Everyone on the field, whether starters or substitutes, needs to approach the game with a strong attitude to secure the result while performing well defensively and offensively.”
