Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has noted that Neymar has shown significant improvement in recent weeks, although he has yet to confirm whether the star will be included in the squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Having missed action since October 2023 due to injuries, Neymar remains optimistic about competing in his fourth World Cup after being named in Ancelotti’s preliminary squad.
The final 26-man roster will be announced on May 18.
“Neymar is very much cherished,” Ancelotti stated in an interview with Reuters.
“He is respected not just by fans but also by his teammates. If Neymar is called up, it won’t cause any unrest in the locker room, as he’s such a well-liked figure.”
Lionel Messi recently expressed his admiration for Neymar, encouraging him to participate in the summer’s premier tournament in North America.
At 34 years of age, Neymar stands as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals.
Ancelotti remarked, “It’s normal for everyone to share their opinions.” He expressed appreciation for the advice he has received. “When making selections, numerous factors must be taken into account.”
“Neymar is undoubtedly a vital asset for the national team, given both his talent and recent recovery from injury. He is putting in the effort and showing consistency in his performances.”
“While the decision is complex, and I must carefully evaluate the options, I don’t feel undue pressure because we’ve been analyzing not just Neymar but every player over the past year.”
After his departure from Real Madrid in May 2025, Ancelotti took the reins of Brazil’s national team. He aims to lead Brazil to their sixth World Cup title, seeking a first win since 2002.
Confident in his ability to select the right 26 players, Ancelotti stated, “I believe I am in the best position to make this decision.” He added, “The insights I have on Brazilian players this year surpass that of anyone else. While crafting a flawless squad is unfeasible, I can create a team with fewer errors compared to others. I am certain of that.”
