Argentina manager confirms…

Argentina’s national team manager, Lionel Scaloni, has revealed interest in the progress of Sevilla winger Joaquin Martinez Gauna, commonly known as Oso. The 22-year-old has been turning heads in 2026 and appears to be on the radar of two prominent international football teams.

Having risen through Sevilla’s academy, Oso primarily plays as a left-back but was utilized as a left winger by Matias Almeyda up until last week. This season, he has made 16 appearances for Los Nervionenses, with seven of those being starts in La Liga. He has scored one goal and delivered three assists, playing a key role in both of Sevilla’s goals in their recent 5-2 defeat to Barcelona. Notably, two weeks prior, his assist was vital in securing a point for Sevilla in the Seville derby against Real Betis, showcasing his potential.

Lionel Scaloni Tracking Oso’s Development

Interestingly, Oso was born in Spain to Argentine parents and holds dual nationality. On Monday, Scaloni stated in an interview with Diario AS that Oso is on their radar for the Albiceleste.

“We’ve observed several of Oso’s performances, and he has impressed us. He’s on a list of players we’re keeping an eye on, and he is eligible for selection,” Scaloni noted.

So far, Spain’s manager, Luis de la Fuente, has not commented on Oso’s prospects and he has not yet received any call-ups to La Roja’s youth teams, a situation also mirrored by Argentina.

Contract Status at Sevilla

In addition to his international prospects, Sevilla is working to secure Oso’s future at the club. Currently, he is contracted until 2027, but if a new deal is not agreed upon before the summer, it could weaken their negotiating position. Oso is expected to play a pivotal role in Sevilla’s efforts to avoid relegation in the coming weeks.
