Arne Slot, the former manager of Liverpool, is reportedly in the running to take over as manager of Al-Ahli, succeeding Matthias Jaissle, as reported by talkSPORT.
In a surprising turn of events, Eddie Howe has stepped down from his position at Newcastle United. Jaissle is expected to take over following his exit from Al-Ahli.
Slot has become a prime candidate for the managerial role at the Saudi Pro League club after being dismissed from Liverpool in May. During his tenure, he guided the Reds to a Premier League title in his first season, but the following season proved difficult, with the team finishing fifth and experiencing a record-breaking 20 defeats across all competitions.
Despite a chance to manage Fulham after Marco Silva’s exit, Slot declined the opportunity. He was also previously mentioned as a potential candidate for AC Milan before they chose Ruben Amorim as their new manager.
Now, Slot is on the radar of Al-Ahli, a club renowned for its success in Saudi Arabia, having won nine league titles. They are also considering Vitor Pereira as a possible replacement.
In June, Nottingham Forest terminated his contract despite his successful efforts in ensuring the club’s safety after succeeding Sean Dyche.
