After his post-World Cup break, Guimaraes has joined Newcastle‘s pre-season camp in La Manga, Spain, as scheduled.
The Brazilian midfielder is a leading target for Arsenal as they look to further strengthen after last season’s Premier League title.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta declined to speak specifically about Guimaraes over the weekend, but said the club are “very active” and “very ambitious in what we want to do”.
“We need to increase the competition internally,” he added.
“We need to make sure we identify the things that we don’t have in the team.”
Newcastle ended last season 12th in the Premier League, with Guimaraes contributing nine goals and eight assists in all competitions.
