Mikel Arteta has emphasized that Arsenal demonstrated sufficient ambition in this summer’s transfer market, even though they were unable to secure a high-profile forward.
The Gunners were prepared to offer Vinícius Júnior a lucrative contract to become their highest-paid player. However, the Brazil winger opted to renew his contract with Real Madrid. The club also faced disappointment after failing to persuade Julián Álvarez to depart from Atlético Madrid.
According to sources, Arsenal had a keen interest in Morgan Rogers, but they hesitated to meet Aston Villa’s asking price. Chelsea subsequently agreed to a £117 million ($158m) deal for the player last month.
The Gunners invested £200 million in five new arrivals, including Bruno Guimarães, Ezri Konsa, Christos Tzolis, and Illan Meslier, along with making Piero Hincapié‘s loan from Bayer Leverkusen permanent.
After Arsenal’s Champions League Final loss to Paris Saint-Germain in May, Arteta remarked that the club needed to be “very ambitious, very fast, and very smart” in the transfer market. When asked if Arsenal’s summer activities met that standard, he replied: “Yes, 100%. The outcomes can differ from what you expect, but the intention is what I value most.”

When Arteta was asked about rising player prices, he replied, “It seems that way,” before adding, “I am confident that such increases come from careful analysis to ensure sustainability, leading to a higher valuation of players in a manageable manner.”
“However, that is a matter for the Premier League and its owners to assess.”
Arteta also noted that Bruno Guimarães suffered a minor injury against Aston Villa but is expected to resume training on Saturday. Additionally, Cristhian Mosquera will also be evaluated after he was substituted at Villa Park due to a precautionary muscular issue.
