Ansu Fati’s long tenure at Barcelona, spanning 14 years, may be nearing its conclusion. Although Fati has spent two of the last three seasons on loan, it seems likely he will leave the club permanently for the first time since moving from Sevilla as a young boy.
This summer, Fati joined AS Monaco on loan after a season in which Hansi Flick found it challenging to allocate him playing time, mainly due to the presence of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. The 23-year-old has had a challenging season in Ligue 1, frequently sidelined due to injuries, accumulating just 1,199 minutes of play. Nevertheless, he has scored 11 goals across 28 appearances, averaging a goal every 109 minutes.
AS Monaco Aims for Permanent Deal with Ansu Fati
According to Fabrizio Romano, AS Monaco plans to activate their €11 million buy option for Fati this summer. Romano also notes that Barcelona will retain a sell-on clause, reportedly around 20% if the transfer materializes. Fati is currently under contract with Barcelona until 2028, making him one of the club’s higher earners.
Potential Negotiations on the Horizon for Fati
However, reports from Spain suggest a different scenario. As per Marca, Monaco intends to discuss the deal again with Barcelona at the end of the season in an effort to negotiate a lower price. They emphasize that it is clear Fati will not be returning to the Catalan capital, and the Blaugrana are eager to finalize the deal before the end of June to aid in their salary cap management.
Gabriel Sans from MD corroborates this, stating that Monaco’s strategy will be influenced by the deal’s terms. Their position is that either the transfer fee needs to be reduced or Fati’s wages should be reconsidered. It’s possible that Fati may ultimately negotiate a deal with Barcelona.
